Hello,
After upgrading GRUB to 20100706, I am no more able to boot linux on my macbook. When i choose from the refit menu to boot on my linux partition,GRUB is stuck with this message : “GRUB _”
I boot with a live cd and chroot to the partition to reinstall it, but it didn’t help.
gptsync is happy: Current GPT partition table: # Start LBA End LBA Type 1 40 409639 EFI System (FAT) 2 409640 162946551 Mac OS X HFS+ 3 162946552 319196552 Basic Data 4 319196553 488392064 MS Reserved

Status: Tables are synchronized, no need to sync.
When running dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc, I got this: /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.. Installation finished. No error reported.
I choosed /dev/sda3, which is my linux partition.
The last grub version working was 20100617, so I tried to reinstall it, but it fails. I think something is wrong with the device map.

I have the same issue with same combo on my desktop computer. I had the same problem a few months ago and it was repaired as you explained. Sorry, I can’t give you answers. I did a search and nothing helped.
I’ve read these bug reports but this time they didn’t help: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/272352 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/291269 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1465748
Some help would be very appreciated

The version of GnuCash provided with Lenny is 2.2.6-2, maintained by Thomas Bushnell. I have been using this GnuCash version for two years, but after a Lenny upgrade I did yesterday it would no longer load.
Included in that upgrade was replacement of libglib2.0-0 version 2.16.0 to version 2.22.4-1 from Lenny-backports. While GnuCash 2.2.6-2 calls for libglib2.0-0 equal to or higher than 2.16.0 — the version from the Lenny repository — it is possible that 2.22.4 could be too advanced for GnuCash 2.2.6-2?
As I see it I have two options:
1. Reinstall the 2.16.0 version of libglib2.0-0, to see whether GnuCash will install again; or
2. Install the latest stable version of GnuCash — 2.2.9 — to see whether it will deign to run with version 2.22.4-1 of libglib2.0-0.
The disadvantages of (1) are that it may break other packages which now require libglib2.0-0 2.22.4-1 after the upgrade, and that I would have to learn how to replace a higher version of a package with a lower one without having aptitude remove all other packages which depend on libglib2.0-0.
The disadvantage of (2) is that as GnuCash 2.2.9 is apparently only available in source form, and I do not (yet?) know how to compile.
I would appreciate comments, advice, etc. Also, does anybody know whether GnuCash 2.2.9 is available compiled as a Debian Lenny package?
Regards, Ken Heard

Charles Blair put forth on 6/26/2010 8:35 AM:
First, copying/pasting the exact error messages would be of great help to us, so we can then help you.
Is this a workstation or a server? Does it run an NFS client or NFS server? Can you give us a brief history of this machine, what it’s used for?
What happens when you execute “aptitude install nfs-common”? If you get an error, please paste it here, in its entirety.
What happens when you execute “aptitude install portmap”? If you get an error, please paste it here, in its entirety.

Hi guys,
I am currently on Debian 5.04 and need to upgrade gettext from the current version to a newer one (im trying to upgrade DR17, and I get gettext errors).
When I install gettext I get a LOT of dependency errors. Is there a way I can get gettext and the needed dependencies in one go?
Thanks
Danny
(ps: apologies if this has been asked before)

You don’t give any information about this, but it sounds like you’ll need to reinstall your nVidia driver. If you downloaded it from the site – i.e. non-free – you will probably have to run it using the shell script to reinstall it. I often find when I’ve done a X-server library update, that that is all that is required to get things working again. If this is your situation too, then don’t forget to close down the X-server otherwise it won’t work.
