On a newly installed KDE on a Testing system, I notice that when I connect a USB flash stick memory, it automatically opens in a Nautilus window.

On the previously installed system, the Nautilus window did not open and only the removable device notifier for KDE popped up a message saying that a memory stick has been inserted. I could then click on the memory’s icon and it would then open in dolphin browser. How do I get this behavior back (and prevent the Nautilus browser from automatically opening)?

Hi. I need to mount a usb disk during boot so that daemons writing to the disk start. The problem is that usb-storage takes time to set up block devices and it does this in the background so it depends on many factors if it makes it before mountall.sh is called. Is there some way this can be accomplished in debian without explicit sleep 20 in mountall.sh?

Also, is there some way to start daemons only after certain hardware becomes available?

What exactly fails?

There are many devices that have only one sample rate or that have one sample rate per alternate setting. This doesn’t deserve a message, much less a warning.

Good day.

I try to install anew my matrix printer. And not able to specify the device I use that is /dev/usb/lp1.

If I try to send directly to the device – it prints, but when I run system-config-printer, I do not know which connection to use of the following: usb serial port #*, appsocket, internet …, lpd/lpr, other.

In case of other I have to specify a device URI that I do not know what is. But trying to specify usb:///dev/usb/lp1 does not print a test page.

So, how I can solve the problem?

As far as USB adapters go, what’s everybody using? What’s good and what needs to be avoided?

I’m not interested in Belkin. Their routers were found to have ears on them a few years ago, so I don’t want to give them my money.

I use etch, which use kernel 2.6.18-6 I want to buy a 2g/3g wireless (USB) card that’s supported by the kernel which brand/model should I buy? where can I find such info? Ideally the card shouldn’t require me to download/compile source code. Thanks!
